Whether it’s a part-time job or traineeship during the semester vacation, gaining work experience pays off and can even lead to a direct career opening.
Employers think highly of students who gain practical experience during their university studies as it is a sign of motivation and the desire to stand on your own feet. Ideally your part-time job should relate to your field of study and allow you to apply and develop the knowledge and skills you have learned. However, jobs in administration, logistics, sales, and gastronomy also provide the chance to gain a range of basic skills required for (professional) life such as working in an accurate, self-directed, and organized manner and not giving up when difficulties arise.
Especially for students from disciplines with open careers such as the natural sciences and the arts and social sciences, but also for students from other faculties, practical experience gained during their student life is extremely useful.
